Katie Zacharia blamed the controversy over her lack of passing a bar exam on a thin White House vetting process.
The newly named Press Secretary appeared on Fox & Friends Friday morning to put a bad week behind her and instead seemed to give the White House a new problem. Lawrence Jones preambled about how tough the job is and how you never want to be the story, and then asked the tough question anyway. Did she wish she had told the president she never passed the bar?
“Those questions weren’t asked,” Zacharia said. “I’m being hired as White House Press Secretary and not White House counsel.”
That's the new press secretary, in her first week, on the network the president watches, just said the White House never asked her whether she was a lawyer.
The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that she earned a law degree from Pepperdine in 2011. She has repeatedly called herself a lawyer, but never passed a bar exam anywhere. Her explanation for the years she says she practiced in China, after marrying and moving there, is that “there’s no Chinese bar.”
The White House vetting process let a press secretary through without asking the most basic question about the credential she’d been advertising. Or someone asked and she’s now saying on Fox News that they didn’t. She picked the version that blames the Trump administration. Oops.
